Animations experimentation

Animating facial expressions

Intro to Animation and Bouncing Ball Exercise

The aim of the session was to create a bouncing ball animation using the different time-lapse and making the ball move! The practicals I tried out were moving the distances time-lapse making the ball bounce and having a squeezing effect

I felt okay about this, yet I believe my work can be improved and be better!

  • The part of the lesson I found most interesting was gathering the knowledge on how to change the timestamps and make the animations move swiftly making it look smoother and granting it a cartoony look!
  • In conclusion, when I look at the final outcome, I think that the main thing I want to try more is getting to know the timestamps and making the animations smoother and more of a Squash and stretch effect
When I look at my future animation work, the main thing I want to try more of is animating highly detailed characters that move in a swiftly cartoony manner to give it a highly detailed frame!

Animation rules and expression

The aim of the session was to create an animation that changed face shapes from happy to sad!

Introducing the 4 rules when it comes to animation

Squash and stretch
When animating, stretch and squash characters to give animation a sense of weight and flexibility!

Timings
The number of drawings or frames in a given action will determine the speed of your animation More drawings = Slow
Less drawings = Fast

Exageration
Refrain from making it realistic and exaggerate his movement

Anticipation
The anticipation frame is more life-like and predicts what they are about to do

When I look at the future of my animation work, I believe there is more work that needs to be done especially on my drawing how I draw the characters and the timestamps of how I change the reaction!

In conclusion, I will carry the fact that my work needs more improvement regarding the drawing and how I draw it each time stamp of the animation

Understanding Shot Sizes

The aim of the session was to learn the different shot types off and we looked at different shot sizes!

Extreme close up = Emphasisig feature and characestic of face

Big close up = Character facial expression

Close up = Regular close up neck shoulder view

Medium close up = Roughly chest up, Favours the face somewhat distant

Mid shot = From the body typiciallyfocused on upper half, lower half isn't showed as much

Medium Long shot = Enviroment and everything in view

Long shot = Subject full view

Shoulder shot = Shoulders of charater in view

POV = Point of view of the enemy or the attacker

Dutch tilt = Tilt where flashbacks or something occurs

I find that the POV   shot is the most interesting one as it reflects the feeling of the killer's POV!

To conclude, I feel that learning the shots will help me in future projects regarding the different shot types and I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding the shot types!

                                             Colouring technique - Adobe animation

- The aim of the session was to get to know the colouring tools, and the tools I found most interesting in today's work was when I used the Drop shadow tools and the effects on a filter which helped me a lot to colour the picture and to detail the image!

The tools I used were my first time and the most interesting was when I used the Drop shadow tool which gave them a 3D Look which embraces the depth of the drawing!

I feel my work came out good, but my drawing could have  been a lot better  and for me, the hardest part of the project was Drawing out the Characters

Advert Planning

  - Advert project,  before creating our advert project  we were advised to keep 4 Important Targerts when developing the Advert, which consists of

. 2 Different coloured shot sizes

- 15-30 seconds long advert

- To Use different shot types which are Long shot, Medium Shot and close-up (specifically the shot types we have used)

- Requires Stanmore Studios logo

Animation project evaluation

- My initial response was feeling curious, and gaining knowledge on creating the advert and animating the advert with the 4 different criteria which were 2 different coloured shot sizes, 15-30s long, Requires Stanmore Studios logo, To use different types of shot sizes!

- During the planning stage, my ideas changed dramatically to the point where I was first discussing a basic zoom-in zoom-out animation to then creating an animation of the logo which ignites flames and settles back down, giving a more realistic look, Another contributing factor to the idea development was when we discussed the fact of making a realistic movement of the animations crossing his hands and personify the animation to have real effects!

 - While doing this project, I faced minor communication issues when it came to the planning of the project with my group, there were some discussions on which we did not agree but after debating came to the right terms and fit them into one idea with the help of all of our group's ideas!
- Looking back over at my teams, one of my groups showed high skill of animating and I would like to learn more about it and to learn how to get better at it!

- The outcome I feel that if I had more experience in animating the final outcome could have been improved and been better but I believe the project came out good and our group did the job to the best of our abilities! I would really like to improve my skills when animating, but rather specifically on keyframes, and I believe the keyframes hold the main position in creating the realisim or the cartoonisim in an animation!

- Overall, I believe the work has turned out great and I believe our group has done the best of our abilities but yet again I believe if our skills were improved in the sense of drawing and making the animations lip-syncable!
